ROG published, and my first online meeting
Today I published my SSG ROG. I didn't know what to call it, so I went with Robert's Own Generator. Clone it today and enjoy. Why did I right it? Here are some reasons:
- Other programs have lots of bells and whistles. My program is simple and easy to use.
- Other programs have 100's of dependencies. My program only has 2.
- Other programs have themes, plugins, and other add-ons that are poorly documented and/or infrequently updated. My program only has a set of templates and a CSS file.
- I was bored.
- I wanted to show potential employers/clients what I can do.
- I was bored.
- I needed something would run on my phone and my laptop.
In other news, I attended the first online meeting for Code Louisville. It was mainly an online presentation where people got to ask some questions. I had never used Google Meet before, but it was easy to get started and ran in my browser. Yay, no installation required! After turning on a filter to hide my crappy room, I waited patiently for the session to start. Then a bunch of people logged in and the presentation started. Among the faces I saw Rekkai Steed, the community coordinator for Louisville and Southern Indiana, and Emily Sullivan, the ops manager. The presentation was basically identical to this one, so I'm not going to repeat it here.
I'm excited about starting the program proper and turning my life around. I'm also looking at starting a YouTube channel and using social media to promote my blog. Rather than focusing on one specific topic or niche, I'm going to try a bunch of stuff and see what sticks. Open source games? E-bike delivery? Stocks and Crypto? Cooking with Python? Probably all of it. If I can't get rich, I can at least have a bit of fun.
